Raphaëlle Séguin, painter

Raphaëlle Séguin was born in Montréal, Québec. From an early age, she enjoyed doodling, arts and crafts, and painting. She studied visual arts at Lionel-Groulx College, and subsequently obtained a diploma in display design from Old Montreal Cegep. She is passionate about visual arts and graphic design, and is mostly fascinated by people’s faces. For her, a face is the most effective communication tool. She finds inspiration in everything that surrounds her, and especially in the people she meets in her everyday life. She likes to play with a wide range of shapes, sizes, colours and contrasts to create her characters and give them an original universe and a unique personality. She also loves to add a touch of whimsy to her more stern looking portraits. Raphaëlle seeks to give viewers a breath of fresh air and a splash of fun and excitement, and to make them smile. She has a visceral need to paint. She derives great pleasure and happiness from creating each painting, loosing herself completely in a world without boundaries and constraints.

Raphäelle continuously refines her techniques. Her art could be defined as humorous, candid, colourful, naive, insightful and playful. She enjoys the fact that individuals have their own unique take on the faces they see.
