Riopelle, Jean-Paul

October 7, 1923 (Montreal) - March 12, 2002 (Saint-Antoine-de-l'Isle-aux-Grues), Jean-Paul Riopelle is without a doubt one of the greatest painters, engravers and sculptors in Canadian history.

He was one of the students of Paul-Émile Borduas at the École du Meubles de Montréal. He then became an important member of the Automatistes artistic movement, in addition to being one of the signatories of the Le Refus global manifesto.

His works can be found in the largest museums in the world, and his work Tribute to Rosa Luxemburg is permanently exhibited at the MNBAQ.
