Born in 1975, Ann Murphy has been creating since she was a child. Throughout her career as a self-taught artist, she has found interest in a variety of techniques such as drawing, painting, carpentry and sculpture. At the age of 25, Murphy completed a degree in interior design, to round out her artistic skill set.
She has participated in the Montreal Crafts Fair as well as many other art shows across Quebec. She has also participated in several exhibitions in Canadian and American galleries.
Today, as the mother of two boys, she divides her time between her workshop and her home. The proximity of her creative space to her home allows her to coordinate work and family. Whether she's creating a new collection of giclées, crafting giant paper mache sculptures or creating unique paintings, Ann Murphy navigates from one project to the next seamlessly never seeming to run out of inspiration.
Murphy works confidently, following her own intuition. She knows that her best work is yet to come and based on her abundant portfolio, she will surely be producing some incredible pieces in the coming years.
Ann Murphy’s animals are full of mesmerizing details. The artist infuses each canvas with a dose of her vivid personality allowing each subject to come alive. Each piece is meant to transport the viewers into a space of colour, positive and joy.
Passionate about colour she uses end endless variety of hues to create each brushstroke. The attention brought to fur, feathers and scales are the hallmark to her one of a kind style.
Murphy’s « Burst » work is a quirky collection of bright colours and bold choices. In the perfect marriage of her two passions, art and design the new work demonstrates her strong aesthetic for colour and composition. The present work reflects a maturity achieved by the artists shown by her capacity to create what she describes as a more stripped-down and expressive work of art.
