Technique: Oil

1930-2015

Born in 1930 on the Baltic Coast near Königsberg, Germany (now Russia), Ebe Kuckein spent much of his life in Kelowna, British Columbia. He died in 2015.

Self-taught, HE Kuckein began painting at the age of 12. His childhood memories are dominated by visions and textures evoked by the fields and forests of his native land. These first memories, associated with the influence of abstract painters (in particular Nicholas De Staël), will serve as the foundation for his painting. In 1950, Kuckein moved to Canada, where he continued to paint while pursuing his career in architecture in Vancouver. His paintings stand out for their great luminosity as well as their unparalleled texture and depth.
