Kenuajuak, Lucassie

Technique: Soapstone

Born in 1946 in Povungnituk, Nunavik (Québec), Lucassie Kenuajuak is a sculptural artist who has been working since 1963. The source of his inspiration comes from the majesty of nature found in the arctic. In particular, he likes documenting and interpreting the various myths and legends of the Inuit people. Kenuajuak's world reflects the fantastic and supernatural. His soapstone sculptures are produced with great detail and refinement. Kenuajuak gives life to his work through the strength of his roots and cultural traditions. Kenuajuak sculptures invoke the remnants of a time all but lost hidden in our own cradle of humanity.
